Many years ago, becoming a fashion designer meant attending fashion school.

Or even work for major retailers and build their brand from nothing to something. Today, the fashion industry looks a lot different. However, that may still apply to some; in 2026, it is no longer the case for many. With the rise of social media, influencer clothing brands have become a growing part of the fashion industry.

The Power of Influencer Marketing

Social media has affected the Fashion world greatly. From only being able to scroll online to shop for the perfect items of clothing, sizes, real outfits, and more. Now we have the opportunity to watch free online reviews and actual visual examples.

Platforms like TikTok and Instagram allow creators to display many things. Such as outfits, lifestyles, different brands, self expression, and content lives in a 15 second video. In those 15 seconds, the audience gets to compare and contrast exactly what it is that they are searching for on a website.

Not only does it help find our perfect size. It allows us to be able to compare it to the creators making the video. It also widens our options, which could lead to purchasing more items from the brand itself in short-form videos. All in all, leads to more sales.

Influencer marketing feels more personal and relatable. By showing their identity, creativity, and ideas. Compared to traditional campaign ads or fashion advertisements. From followers to fashion, this connection has opened many opportunities for the rise of influencer clothing brands. To then become fashion creators with passion in this niche.

SKIMS is a great example of the rise of influencer clothing brands. The creator Kim Kardashian became famous for being on "Keeping Up With The Kardashians". Because she already had a large following, she was then able to use the resources she already had and build a brand that she dreamed of.

Kim Kardashian built a strong relationship with her audience. SKIMS is now a multibillion-dollar company and one of the top brands. She did not need to go to fashion school or start from zero.

All she did was bring her vision to life with the audience she had built over many years. This gave her a big advantage when creating her own fashion brand.

The Kardashians major social media presence and strong personal brand played an important role in the success of SKIMS.

Influencers with a large following and even micro creators make it easy to see how items of clothing from clothing brands can be styled in many ways. For example, outfit videos, styling posts, try on hauls, and real life value inspire shoppers before they even make a sale and creates brand trust.

SKIMS uses social media such as TikTok and Instagram to show its products. Such as matching sets, T-shirts, and more, which are for everyday use and how to wear them. From all body types to even how to layer clothing, it shows how it can be part of an everyday outfit.

These type of images and videos helps shoppers better understand the appeal of the products. Her brand features stylish pieces, sustainability, and quality clothing.

A Sense Of Community Engagement With Fashion Brands

SKIMS has built its sense of community through inclusive campaigns. In 2019, Kim Kardashian took her influence a step further by launching SKIMS. SKIMS is a brand focused on shapewear, loungewear, and simple everyday essentials.

Rather than promoting clothing from other companies with gifted products and other perks, influencers have been creating a brand of their own. This then reflected their personal style and understanding of what consumers wanted.

SKIMS rapidly gained attention through social media. Such as celebrity campaigns and the Kardashians existing audience. Kim's followers were already familiar with her fashion choices. Thus making the transition from influencer to clothing brand founder feel natural.

Kim turned her personal influence into a business. She went from someone that people followed in her everyday life to now being an influencer that creates the clothes people wanted to wear. SKIMS revolves around and demonstrates how influencers can use their own platforms to build brands. This goes beyond sponsored posts and collaborations.

Today, Kim Kardashian's story represents a huge shift in the fashion industry. Influencers are no longer promoting other brands and trends. They are now becoming the founders of their own. As well as many other creative women, such as Evangelina Petrakis.

Evangelina started off as a micro influencer. Then decided to use her platform to be the founder of  EP Jewels. EP Jewels is a timeless brand that shows through fashion accessories and jewelry. Through brands like SKIMS and EP Jewels, these women show how to build a strong personal brand.

They have an engaged audience. Also, a clear vision can help transform online influence into a fashion brand and luxury labels.

Building Trust, Driving Sales

Followers feel as though they know the creator through their content. When that creator launches a clothing brand, it feels trustworthy. Something is appealing about purchasing from an influencer's clothing brand.

Even better is one whose style you already admire. There is a sense of community engagement within this.

Consumers can connect with the influencer and fashion creators behind the designs. In SKIMS case, Kim Kardashian's long-standing visibility in fashion and popular culture helped consumers. By understanding the brand's focus on shapewear, body confidence, and versatility.

Influencers have affected the fashion industry. There has been a big shift, valued at 6.8 billion, to an estimated 12.5 billion in 2026. This growth shows how important social media creators have become in the fashion industry.

The rise of influencer clothing brands has not only grown more consumers. It also allowed for a major upward shift in the fashion world. Billions of people now feel as though they have the freedom to make purchases after seeing visual reviews and graphics that feel real.

Not only are they getting the intimate videos and posts that are not paid partnerships, but they are now featured getting the trust of their favorite influencers. Instead of purchasing from clothing brands like Fashion Nova, Garage, and Victoria's Secret, customers get much more than clothes. They are now creating this massive switch in supporting and trusting influencers.

This is no longer a trend; it is real life. Influencer clothing brands have made a major positive impact on the world of fashion. Instead of only promoting other clothing brands, influencers are now creating their own and building brands based on their personal style and what their followers would enjoy.

As influencer clothing brands continue to grow, people should continue to support creators and explore the brands they create.
