Though, no matter which format you enjoy, there is a story out there for everyone. Below you will find five female writers who are not only authors, but also entrepreneurs, physicians, scientists, advocates, and so much more.

These are incredible women who may be on your radar or may not, but hopefully, after you read this, you’ll feel inspired to check them out! 

Books and Cakes 

Our first published female writer we'd like to introduce you to is Abby Jimenez. Jimenez is a New York Times bestselling author, best known for her romance novels.

Not only is she a bestselling romance author, but she is also a baker and the founder of Nadia Cakes bakery. Her career as a romance writer didn’t start traditionally.

In an interview with Carissa Mosness, Jimenez opens up about her journey from baker to author, and how, unlike most authors who attend college, she did not.

However, that didn’t stop her from building a successful career. Jimenez has gone on to create 3 interconnected standalone series that are fast, fun, and flirty, but also emotional.

Her novels have representations of real-life topics such as anxiety, grief, and infertility, to name a few. Though these are sensitive topics, female writers like Jimenez do an incredible job balancing representation and happily ever afters.

Women Writers in STEM

Female writers come in many forms; Traveler, neuroscientist, and writer Ali Hazelwood! Ali Hazelwood is another New York Times bestselling author, known for her romance novels. You may know her for her debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, which is currently being adapted to film.

Which reminds us, don't forget to bookmark your calendars for September 23. However, did you know she has many other novels? Since the start of her journey, Hazelwood has written 15 books, publishing at least one novel consistently every year since 2021.

Within the last year, book-to-screen adaptations have grown significantly, and Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of the biggest to have major success adapting her novels for the screen.

Taylor has nine books under her belt, two that have already been adapted, and five others that are set to become a show or movie.

Her novels have really well-developed storylines and characters. If you’re looking for a place to start, One True Love is one of her books that has already been adapted, and if you’re familiar with the 2025 film Eternity, both have similar storylines.

Love Letters: Stories that make space for everyone

A round of applause for her first novel, It’s All in Your Head, Sabina Nordqvist! Nordqvist began writing as a way to cope with her chronic pain and illness.

Like many other female writers, she draws from lived experiences as well as community-informed knowledge. According to Nordqvist, her stories are love letters to the disability community, and to anyone who’s ever been told they were “too much.”

She notes that through storytelling, she's found a space where she can imagine love that isn’t conditional on health, where intimacy adapts and evolves, and happily-ever-afters make room for pain instead of erasing it.

Similar to Jimenez, in her novels Nordqvist portrays real-life topics such as chronic pain, chronic illness, mental health, and neurodiversity, which is something we still don’t often see. 

Expanding Representation of Female Authors & Leads in Beach Reads

There is no way we could end this blog without mentioning Kristina Forest. Forest is a Black American romance author who writes novels with people of color at the center of her stories. Kristina wrote the beach read she didn’t see on bookstore shelves.

Her stories give a voice to authors and readers who don’t often see themselves in these “traditional spaces”.

As females, it’s probably something we’ve all experienced before, and it's not fun, but we all probably have someone that we look towards who is paving the way, and Kristina Forest is one of many female writers doing just that in the publishing world!
