live stream shopping

Beauty shopping has always been a social experience.

Friends share product recommendations, makeup artists share their favorite techniques, and beauty lovers spend hours watching tutorials before adding a new product to their routine.

Now, that experience is happening live and online.

Live stream shopping is changing the way beauty brands market and sell products. Instead of watching an ad or shopping in store, users can watch a product demo, ask questions, and shop on their favorite social platform.

This is a major opportunity for beauty brands. Live steam shopping helps bring entertainment, information, community, and e-commerce into one.

What is live stream shopping?

Live stream shopping is social commerce that lets users to watch live stream content and purchase products in real time. Think QVC, but for TikTok.

During live stream shopping, a host can demo beauty products while interacting directly with viewers. Products are linked during the live stream so that users can directly purchase through the live stream.

Beauty products usually need to be demonstrated to prove its performance. Viewers want to see how a foundation sits on the skin, how pigmented a blush is, or how makeup brushes pair with specific products.

A product page can list the benefits, live stream shopping can actually show them.

TikTok Shop has helped make this even easier. TikTok reported that U.S. TikTok Shop sales increased 120% during the first part of 2025 compared to 2024. For beauty brands, social media is not only helping customers discover products, it's becoming the store, too.

Why livestreaming works

Beauty shoppers love to research before they buy. They watch TikTok reviews, search for makeup tutorials, and view ratings from other shoppers. Live stream shopping brings this process into one place.

During a live, shoppers can ask questions and receive answers in real time. Someone wondering if a brush works with a cream blush can ask the live stream shopping host. Someone unsure about a product shade can request the host to swatch it. The instant interaction can help make shopping feel more personal.

Live content also feels less forced than traditional ads.

Customers are now expecting authentic content from both brands and creators. Live stream shopping gives beauty brands an opportunity to show the real people, products, and personalities behind the marketing.

BK Beauty leans into TikTok Live

BK Beauty is a great example of how live stream shopping can change a beauty brand's sales strategy.

They are an Austin-based company founded by makeup artist Lisa J. They built their brand through providing professional-quality makeup brushes. When BK Beauty joined TikTok Shop in 2023, the brand quickly saw it's potential and leaned into livestream shopping events.

According to Inc., BK Beauty received 3,000 orders shortly after joining TikTok Shop. Half of those orders came directly from their TikTok Shop.

BK Beauty's success also teaches an important lesson for beauty marketers: education sells.

Makeup brushes make great products to demo. BK can show the shape of the brush, how it applies foundation, and show the final results in real time. Live stream shopping allows brands like BK Beauty to turn their product knowledge into content and then content into sales.

It's more than just simply adding a product link to your content. The best live stream experiences help customers learn why a product belongs in their routine.

Medicube uses live shopping to make skincare easy

Skincare can be confusing. Shoppers are constantly being introduced to new ingredients, routines, and trends. A brand can have a great product, but customers still need to understand how it works.

Medicube has found success by making their skincare easy to use through educational videos. The K-beauty brand invested heavily into TikTok Shop. Vogue reported that Medicube saw a 1,143% increase in TikTok Shop revenue from 2024 to 2025, surpassing $102.9 million in total revenue.

A major part of Medicube's social strategy is product education.

Products that are more complex like Medicube's AGE-R Booster Pro are great for demo content. Hosts can show the product in action, explain how it fits into a skincare routine, and show their results.

Shoppers might be hesitant to buy a skincare product after seeing an ad for it, but watching a creator use the product and explain it step-by-step can make it feel less intimidating.

Medicube shows how beauty brands can turn complex product benefits into entertaining content. The lesson for marketers is: if users don't understand how to use your products, create content that shows them.

Live shopping is replacing traditional beauty counters

For years, the beauty counter was an important part of beauty marketing and the customer journey. They could visit a store, speak with a beauty expert, test products, and get recommendations. Online shopping made beauty shopping more convenient, but some of that personal interaction disappeared.

Live stream shopping is bringing that experience back online. A live stream host is basically a digital beauty advisor. They can demo products, answer questions, and recommend different options based on what viewers need.

BK Beauty can explain which brush works best for foundation. Medicube can show customers how to use a skincare device. ONE/SIZE can show how a setting spray performs in real time. That is the modern beauty counter.

What beauty marketers can learn from livestream shopping

The results beauty brands are seeing from leaning into live stream content speak for themselves: live shopping is worth the investment. Keeping up with the evolving demands of shoppers will help beauty brands thrive and maintain relevance against competitors.

So when brands are ready to start streaming on live platforms, it's important to remember:

  1. Not every host needs to be a mega-influencer. Find the right personality to share their expert knowledge on camera. The best host may already be part of the team.

  2. Brands need to think like content creators. A successful live event needs a strong host, interesting talking points, and enough energy to keep viewers watching.

  3. Find the voices within the brand that people genuinely want to learn from and watch. Test different types of content and use each live as an opportunity to build a community.
